Updated this week

Learn to configure conversion tracking to measure key actions on your website, from sign-ups to purchases. This guide walks you through naming conversions, selecting data sources, and fine-tuning tracking settings. With these steps, you'll have actionable conversion data flowing into your dashboard in no time.

When to Use This / Prerequisites

  • When to use: You want to track specific user actions like form submissions, purchases, or page visits

  • Prerequisites:

    • Sona Pixel installed on your website (for pixel-based tracking)

    • Access to conversion tracking settings

    • Clear understanding of the actions you want to measure

Step-by-Step Instructions

A. Define Your Conversion

Step 1: Name your conversion:

  • Enter a descriptive name in the Conversion Name field

    • Use clear, action-oriented names (e.g., "Newsletter Sign-Up," "Demo Request," "Purchase Completed")

    • Choose names that will be easily recognizable in reports

Step 2: Enable dashboard visibility:

  • Toggle the Custom Dashboard Metric option on if you want this conversion to appear as a customizable metric in your reporting dashboards

B. Select Your Data Source

Choose how conversion data will be captured:

  1. Captured by Sona Pixel: Select this for website-based tracking using your installed Sona Pixel

  2. Report: Choose this to pull conversion data from existing reports or external sources

C. Configure Tracking Settings

Fine-tune your conversion criteria with these three components:

  1. Field: Specify the data field to filter on (e.g., "Event Type," "Page URL," "Button Click")

  2. Filter: Define your filter criteria:

    • "Contains" for partial matches

    • "Equals" for exact matches

    • Additional operators as available

  3. Value: Enter the specific value to match (e.g., "thank-you-page," "purchase-complete," "sign-up")

Key Concepts / Best Practices

  • Naming Strategy: Use consistent naming conventions across all conversions for easier analysis

  • Filter Precision: Be specific with your filter values to avoid capturing unintended actions

  • Dashboard Integration: Enable Custom Dashboard Metric for conversions you'll monitor regularly

  • Testing: Verify your conversion settings with test actions before going live

  • Data Quality: Ensure your filter values exactly match the data being sent by your pixel or reports
