Destination Setup: HubSpot Engagements

Updated over a week ago

This guide walks you through connecting your Sona Audiences to HubSpot Engagements for automated syncs. By completing this setup, your HubSpot contact records will update in real time with behavioral data from Sona, enabling smarter segmentation and engagement.

Prerequisites

  • A HubSpot account must be connected to Sona

  • Access to Sona Audiences data

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Connect HubSpot to Sona

  1. Go to Connectors in the Sona sidebar

  2. Locate or add the HubSpot Connector

  3. Authenticate with your HubSpot credentials and ensure the status reads Active

Step 2: Create a New Destination

  1. Navigate to the Destinations section

  2. Click + Add Destination

  3. Select HubSpot Engagements from the list

Step 3: HubSpot-Specific Configuration

  • Destination Name: Enter a clear name like "Engaged Contacts - HubSpot"

  • Target Selection: Select your connected HubSpot account

  • Event Platform: Choose the Sona platform sending engagement data

  • Target Type: Select the HubSpot object type to update (e.g., Contacts, Companies)

  • Company Association (Optional): Toggle ON Allow Company Association & Creation if you'd like Sona to associate or create Company records for engaged contacts

  • Enable real-time processing for this destination: Check this box if you want immediate data updates

    • When enabled, real-time processing will override the scheduled sync frequency

    • Ideal for time-sensitive workflows and immediate lead follow-up

For general destination configuration steps—such as selecting a Sona audience, setting sync frequency, record matching, field mapping, sync settings, and saving—follow the instructions in the Destination Setup guide.

Best Practices (optional)

  • Use clear and specific destination names (e.g., "Product Demo Visitors → HubSpot")

  • Start with more frequent syncs (e.g., every 30–60 minutes) if engagement recency is critical

  • Segment destinations by engagement type or funnel stage (e.g., high-intent visits vs. generic content views)

  • Periodically audit your HubSpot fields and sync logs to ensure all data is flowing correctly

  • Use custom properties in HubSpot to capture and act on rich engagement signals from Sona
